Superdeck® Super Prime specialty primer is a high-quality oil-based, exterior stain-blocking primer recommended for use on all types of exterior wood surfaces, including siding, singles, plywood and rough-sawn or smooth surfaces. Super Prime is specially designed for use on extractive-prone wood species and is formulated with the highest-quality stain-blocking pigments to provide superior resistance to extractive bleeding.
The addition of special Alkyd resins conditions excessively chalky surfaces. Super Prime's higher-hiding and faster-drying formula allows application of a quality finish coat in just a few hours, increasing labor efficiencies by improving project completion time.
Super Prime makes an ideal base coat for Superdeck Super Hide Siding Stain, as well as all types of exterior solid stains and paints.
Super Prime contains a highly effective mildewcide to inhibit the growth of mildew on the coating's surface.

Surface
Preparation:
All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dirt, mildew, dust, and other
foreign matter. Previously painted or
stained surfaces should be prepared by removing all loose or peeling debris. Chalky surface residue should be cleaned with
a scrub brush, rinsed and allowed to dry. Use Superdeck Wood Brightener to remove discoloration from
tannic acid and nail head rust stains. New wood should be primed immediately and not
allowed to weather. All wood surfaces
must be completely dry before application of Super Prime Stain Blocking Primer.
Mildew: Remove all mildew stains using Superdeck Wood Cleaner. Mildew is not caused by this coating and does
not represent coating failure. This
product cannot prevent mildew growth that is already present on the wood
surface if not properly cleaned prior to application of primer. However, this primer does contain a highly
effective mildewcide to inhibit the growth of mildew on the coating's surface.
Extractive
Bleeding:
Some wood species such as redwood, cedar, and fir contain natural water soluble
extractives which tend to migrate or bleed to the surface and cause
discoloration to the coating.This
product is designed to retard extractive bleeding. However, extractive bleeding is not caused by
the coating and does not represent coating failure. Any extractive bleeding can be easily removed
using Wood Brightener.
Application: Product is supplied ready to use, no thinning
is necessary. Product should be shaken
or stirred before and during application. If the job requires more than one batch,
intermix containers to ensure consistency. Always test a small area to ensure dry time. Apply using a high quality natural bristle
brush, roller, or professional spray equipment.Back rolling or brushing is suggested when
spraying, working the product smoothly and evenly into the wood to ensure
proper penetration and a uniform appearance. Always maintain a wet edge, starting at one
edge and following through to the end of the boards to avoid lap marks. One coat is sufficient for most wood surfaces. However, two coats may be necessary on
rough sawn surfaces or woods containing high levels of water soluble tannic
acid. Top coats should be applied within 30 days after primer application. Apply in temperatures above 35ºF
and below 90ºF.Do not apply
in direct sunlight or if surface is hot to touch. Do not apply if rain is likely to occur.
Dry Time: 1 hour to touch. Allow at least 4 hours dry time before
applying top coat. Dry time can be
affected by temperature and humidity. Tinting
product with universal machine colorants may prolong dry time. Dry time may be prolonged in cooler
temperatures.
Coverage: Smooth Surfaces - 400-500 sq. ft. per gallon. Rough Surfaces - 150-250 sq. ft. per gallon. Surface texture, method of application, and
wood moisture content will affect coverage.
Tinting: Super Prime may be tinted with up to 4 ounces
per gallon with compatible universal machine colorants.
Restrictions: Do not apply if temperature is below 35ºF
or if temperature falls below 35ºF for 24 hours after application. Do not apply over wet or damp surfaces. Do not thin this product. Super Prime may not fully prevent extractive
bleeding on wood species with an unusually high tannic acid and moisture
content. Knots should be sealed with a
high quality knot sealer prior to application of primer. For exterior use only.
