Note: These are the best computer representations of product colors, but the existing concrete conditions greatly influence the final color of stains and finishes. For best results, always obtain a sample, test a small area and let product to dry to ensure color satisfaction before making your final color selection. Wet stain looks very different from dry stain.
Product Data Guide & MSDS
Mason's Select Woodperfect Semi-Transparent Coating meets all current regulations for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
BOARD PREPARATION: Use
WoodPerfect over flat primers only. Board
must be dry and free of all contaminants and foreign particles. Boards must be at least 50ºF and not more
than 90ºF prior to coating. Boards
must have a consistent look; imperfections will show through coating.Remove any efflorescence with soap and water
prior to coating.
PRODUCT PREPARATION: DO NOT
THIN PRODUCT. Do not shake product. Stir until completely mixed. To insure color consistency, intermix all
gallons being used.
TEST AREA:
Different siding products produce different results depending on color of
boards, grain pattern, porosity of boards, and if primed boards or unprimed
boards are used. Color on unprimed
boards will vary significantly from color on primed boards. Always apply product to a small test area
before coating entire project to ensure desired color and appearance.
Machine
Coat Application:Optimal
results are achieved by applying coating horizontally through a factory
prestain machine.Primed board
requires two coats, each coat being at least 6 mils wet. Unprimed board requires three coats, each coat
being at least 6 mils wet. Allow at
least 1 hour dry time between coats, unless oven curing. WoodPerfect Coating
must be dry to the touch before applying additional coats. Proper cure time will insure a hard, scuff- and
mar-resistant coating. Product is
designed for both ambient (air) and oven drying.
PRECAUTIONS-FIELD
APPLICATION: Do not apply in extreme heat of day or in direct hot sunlight. Do not apply product if rain is likely to
occur within 24 hours.On unprimed
boards, the first coat will penetrate rapidly. Allow the first coat to dry for two hours
before applying second coat. Primed
boards require two coats, unprimed boards require three coats.
FIELD
APPLICATION-HORIZONTAL: Primed or unprimed boards may be coated
horizontally before installation. Boards
should be laid out on a level surface and the coating should be allowed to completely
dry before installation. Product may be
applied using a brush, roller or airless sprayer. Optimal performance is with an airless sprayer
using a 615 tip at approximately 1500-psi. Be sure to coat individual boards with enough
product to cover the board and fill the valleys. Allow the product to pool in the valleys to
enhance the wood grain pattern. Back
brushing or back rolling is not recommended. If applying with a brush or roller, use a
quality applicator recommended for latex products. When brushing, apply the coating against the
grain pattern to further build product in the valleys. To achieve deeper color tones, additional
coats of WoodPerfect may be applied.
FIELD APPLICATION-VERTICAL:
Primed or unprimed boards may be coated vertically after installation. Product may be applied with an airless sprayer
or a brush. Optimal performance is with
an airless sprayer. As this product has
a viscosity more similar to stain than paint, the first coat should be applied
with a finishing tip (411-513 tip).Spray
siding until the product covers the board without flooding it. Any drips or runs should immediately be
brushed out. This product has a fast dry
time and may lap; therefore it is very important to maintain a wet edge and
work to natural break points such as windows, doors, and corners.Begin coating from the bottom and work up. If working on a two-story structure, use
scaffolding to maintain a continuous wet edge on higher points. Allow the first coat to dry for two hours
before applying the second coat. Whenapplying the second coat, a higher volume of
product may be used (523-615 tip). It is
still important to apply an even amount of product without over-applying to the
point of creating drips or runs. To
achieve deeper color tones, multiple, even coats may be applied.Note: Allow coating to dry 24 hours before
using a clear caulking (always read and follow all manufacturer instructions
for caulking compounds).
Painted Siding and Trim: Previously-painted and installed siding and trim can be primed and coated with WoodPerfect.
Use a premium quality, flat, exterior grade primer and allow it to completely
dry before applying WoodPerfect. Follow
the above instructions for vertical installation. End Cuts: All
end-cuts should be coated before installation. As specified by manufacturer,
all seams, joints etc. should be caulked using a premium quality clear caulk
(always follow manufacturer instructions for caulking compounds).
RE-APPLICATION & TOUCH-UPS: Where mars, scratches
or imperfections result after installation, touch up with a brush. Apply coating to the area and feather it into
the surrounding finish. Apply two
touch-up coats if the imperfection shows bare boards. For complete re-application, clean the entire
surface with Mason's Select Brand Products Concrete Cleaner to
remove foreign matter, and allow 24 hours to dry, then apply coating using a
brush, roller, or airless sprayer.
DRY TIME: MACHINE APPLICATION: To touch 1 Hour; to recoat 1 hour; rack cure time 8 hours.
FIELD APPLICATION: To touch 1 hour; to recoat 2 hours.
COVERAGE: 175-275 sq. ft. per gallon, depending on porosity of
surface.
