Mason's Select Safe Solution is a waterborne solution of non-corrosive,
low-PH organic salts that have been specially formulated to clean and
roughen or etch concrete surfaces. Mason's Select Safe Solution has
been specifically formulated to replace extremely corrosive and
hazardous concrete etching products such as muriatic acid (hydrochloric
acid) and phosphoric acid. Mason's Select Safe Solution is
non-corrosive to skin, low-fuming, low-odor and biodegradable, and it
has zero VOC (volatile organic compound). Mason's Select Safe Solution
is slightly bodied to cling to non-level surfaces, and it achieves a
very uniform etch.

Mason's Select Transparent Concrete Stain meets all current regulations for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
Preparation: Area
to be etched must be bare concrete, clean and free of oil, grease, sealers and
other foreign contaminants.Use Mason's
Select®Concrete Cleaner to remove
tough oil and grease stains, following all label directions for cleaning.
Application For Etching:Do
not allow product to dry at any time during the etching process. Apply product at temperatures above 50oF.
and below 90oF.Do not apply
in direct sunlight if possible.Apply
Safe Solution full strength to concrete surface using a pump-up sprayer, or
pour product directly onto concrete and spread out using a push broom or
brush.Only use synthetic brooms and
brushes.Flood entire surface with Safe
Solution.A mild foaming action will
indicate that the product is working.Allow product to remain on surface for a minimum of 30 minutes.Do not allow product to dry on surface. Safe
Solution is not effective when dry, if product starts to dry, apply more
product to area, or mist lightly with water.When foaming action stops, scrub wet product with stiff bristle brush
broom and rinse with water or power wash.
Efflorescence Removal From Fiber Cement:Follow
application recommendations for etching.Allow Safe Solution to remain on surface for 10 min. - keeping wet -
then rinse. Aggressive pressure washing
or scrubbing not necessary. Allow to dry
to determine if efflorescence has been completely removed, if not repeat
procedure.
Rinsing & Neutralizing: Rinse entire area thoroughly with water
using a garden hose or pressure washer.If you plan on using a concrete stain or paint, first neutralize the
entire area using Concrete Cleaner, follow all label directions for
neutralizing.
Inspect Area:Inspect all areas of surface before painting
or staining.If properly etched, the
concrete surface will be rough to the touch and have the appearance as rough as
120 grit sandpaper.Repeat etching
process to any areas that are still smooth or not sufficiently etched.
To Scour Out Ground-In Dirt:For
removing dirt and mud stains from concrete or mortar residue from brick, dilute
product 1 part Safe Solution to 1 part water.Apply product with pump-up sprayer, brush, or push broom, then scrub
with bristle brush until clean and rinse with water or power wash.OTHER USES: For removing rust stains from
metal or tarnish from copper & brass, apply product full strength, multiple
applications may be necessary for tough stains.
Coverage:Approx.
100-200 sq. ft. per gallon.

Q: How do I know when the surface is ready to be stained?
A properly-prepared surface will have the texture of 120-grit sandpaper.
The surface will be free of any and all dust. Simply run your finger on the dry concrete; if white residue appears on your finger, vacuum or rinse.
If etching was done, the surface must be neutralized.
Allow the surface to dry for 24 hours before coating.
